What is Pinyin Sudoku?

This blog is mainly the home of my hand-made, printable sudokus (complete list here) for Chinese language learners around the globe. Pinyin sudokus use Chinese characters instead of numbers, in a 9 x 9 scheme (jpg pictures in the postings). Solving pinyin sudokus helps to sort out the many similar-looking characters and homophones - and it is a fun way of practising.

Each sudoku features 9 different characters, all pronounced by the same pinyin syllable, e. g. "ma" in its various tones (mā, má, mǎ, mà, ma; at least the fifth one is rare :-). Each character is given 4 times in each sudoku, so it has to be filled in 5 times per sudoku (15 times per sheet). The "logical" level of the sudokus is "easy". Knowledge of the Chinese language is not a prerequisite but of course it helps. Below you may find links to my favourite language learning (and other) sites, mostly in English and German. Comments and suggestions, likes and tweets are welcome :-).

Learning languages has always been my favourite pastime. I set up the Pinyin Sudoku with translations and explanations in English to also keep up with this important language.

I hope you enjoy this blog and try out some of the sudoku sheets. They might be useful to boost your chineese, or just to tickle your brain.
